Playing Piano for Well-being

These piano-playing sessions are designed for anyone interested in exploring an alternative way to express emotions, thoughts, and ideas without relying heavily on words. The piano serves as a tool that provides instant access to musical sounds. Musical exercises may be used as a starting point to delve into unspoken or hidden emotions; for instance, you will be supported musically during spontaneous duets. No prior musical training is required to benefit from these sessions.

A session can be non-verbal if you feel comfortable, or creative songwriting and composition may be encouraged to help you express known feelings. Some participants may notice similarities between these Piano Playing for Wellbeing sessions and counseling, as both utilize a safe environment to explore emotions. In these sessions, music and sound become the primary means of communication.

Getting Started

I offer a free 20-minute consultation chat, and the first assessment session is priced at £45. This initial session allows you to determine whether Piano Playing for Wellbeing is right for you and whether you feel comfortable working with me. It’s also an opportunity for me to assess how I can best support you. You are under no obligation to continue after this session. For optimal benefits, I recommend committing to six continuous sessions.

MY APPROACH

I believe that everyone has the ability to play music. Music-making is a natural part of ourselves; it exists within and around all of us. Sometimes, we just need a little encouragement to bring it out. Most young children instinctively move to music and sing back without hesitation. As adults, we still feel the power of music, but when it comes to creating it, we often become self-conscious about what is right or wrong or how we should play. While these concepts may be relevant for learning to play an instrument, they do not apply when making music in the context of Piano Playing for Wellbeing.

In this setting, there is no right or wrong way to create music. The focus is on self-expression and tapping into emotions that may be difficult to express in words. I may provide musical accompaniment to support your playing, listen to your music, or suggest activities for specific emotional expression. In this non-judgmental environment, my role is to help you feel comfortable expressing a wide range of emotions through music.
